Thanks for coming to our meeting last Monday evening with so much great information about Sri Lanka! While it took some doing to keep all the players straight (Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims, Dutch, British, Portuguese, etc.), it was an eye opener to learn what a vast wealth of history and culture resides in such a small island.
Now we're off to another political hotspot--Iran; homeland of the Persian Empire, the Zoroastrian religion, and the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. So jump on your flying carpet and fly off to the book store or library to find a good read. (My apologies to those at the last meeting whom I mistakenly told Salman Rushdie was Iranian. He is, in fact, a British citizen born in Mumbai, India, so his only connection to Iran is that the Iranian religious leader Ayatollah Khomeni put a price on his head for writing the book Satanic Verses.)
Vera Goodman has kindly offered to host our next meeting, which will take place on July 20th at 7 pm. You might also want to note that, after a brief summer hiatus, our first meeting of the fall will be on September 14th (topic and location to be determined at next meeting).

Happy reading and hope to see you then!
